Beware ! Uneven Footway

At the far end of the Wootton Road in Abingdon a “Beware ! Uneven Footway” sign has appeared near Abingdon and Witney College.

Chestnut tree roots growing under the footway have cracked and lifted the pavements creating a trip hazard.

For those who walk, run, cycle or ride horses they should be aware that the bridleway between Drayton/Abingdon and Marcham is closed and could be for quite a while.
The brick built bridge over Childrey Brook at Marcham Mill is in a dangerous condition. Lets hope that its not going to take a year to repair !
Whilst on the subject of closures, the bridleway, National Cycle route 5, that runs between Sutton Courtney and Didcot is closed. It is currently not scheduled to reopen until late October ! Works are taking place on the high voltage cables that cross the route.

Well, where I used to visit my mother in north Manchester there are trees like this and the council have simply piled on successive layers of tarmac. So, there is a slight ‘climb’, but at least the pavement is smooth. Where there’s a will, there’s a way!

GJ have you been to Bagley wood rd and seen the roadworks? I would if I were you, You might have a different POF if you did.
With all the heavy earth moving equipment up there. OCC do (for once) seem to be as god as their word.

Some good news for the users of Preston road. It looks like it will be resurfaced next April. Start date is April 1 though !

Before the High St in town was resurfaced I fell in (and over) some massive holes and bumps carved out by the busses in the bus lane. Whiplashed the neck! Apparently I was the 3rd person to trip there in a week. Today 3 years on, I still have knee problems ……

Hope those tree roots don’t claim someone.

    …… and no, I didn’t claim…

Whilst drilling down the OCC web site I noted that we are in for a year of additional travel disruption on the nearby roads.
Six months work is scheduled for improvements to the Kennington and Lodge Hill roundabouts.
Network Rail are set to raise bridges in preparation for electrification of the rail lines. For six months Steventon Hill, the A388 north of Grove and the B4016 at Appleford will be closed. For ‘off roaders’ they are also closing Thame Lane I wonder if the beautiful arched red brick bridges are to be replaced with modern steel box structures !

No fear BykerRode, those bridges became grade 2 listed last year. Maybe that was on the cards so someone got in there quick???

    Marcham Mill:

The bridleway is STILL closed, 3 years on. (18 August 2016)

There is an official notice there saying that work might take place this financial year (2016/2017).

    hmmm…….
