Mike Moon was on the Market Place organising another FairTrade event in the middle of FairTrade fortnight.
Oxfam joined in, and as well as FairTrade produce were selling Red Noses. (Red Nose day is March 15th – the chance to do something funny for money.)
Our town centre PCSOs came along to keep an eye on proceedings.
Trinity Church brought out their FairTrade stall – something that is normally only seen in church once a month.
Anishine Trading was there showing there in more to FairTrade than tea, coffee, chocolate, and bananas.
And there was a new game called Un-FairTrade Dice, which involved pushing 4 giant pictured dice off a table.
Top scores were Park Run with 123p, Cheeky Monkeys with 122p, and Fair Traders on 76p.
3 families each turned up a very impressive 3 out of 4 FairTrade Farmers with their go. They were: Umizoomi, Letcombs, and Cobner Vales.
A really good day in Abingdon with a lovely atmosphere. A big Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible.
I thought chamber of commerce said they was going to be there to talk to the shop owners and residents of Abingdon ?
Moody man – They were! They were involved in organising the event and the top picture above is of one of their officers at their stall. I went to talk to them ….
There’s one of the chamber officers in the background of the last picture too.
I went over & chatted to them for a bit. It was interesting to hear how much is going on in Abingdon at the moment. It amazes me how much is being organised by VOLUNTEERS who all have their own businesses to run
I too spoke to a couple of Chamber members, so Moody Man should get his facts right. Also impressed by how much they organise, including this event, which bring me into the town.
It was a great day, my thanks go to Mike Moon for organising it. It was a shame it was little cold, but would like to reassure moody man, and anyone else, that we are also a member of the Chamber of Commerce. The response has made me wonder if it is time for a Fair Trade shop in Abingdon…?
That’s my daughter dressed as the banana and with the dice in the last picture. She’s very keen on Fair Trade and enjoyed the event.
I would like to buy more Fairtrade products so I think a shop would be a good addition to Abingdon.
I think that Banana Girl should start her own blog – she has been doing so many interesting things recently 🙂
Ali – a wide range of fair trade goods are on sale six days a week in the cafe at 35 Ock Street Abingdon.
As well as a wide range of stock, they will order anything out of the TraidCraft catalogue you want.
