On page 15 of Monday’s Oxford Mail there was an article about this blog. Many Thanks to Andy Ffrench for the excellent write up. Next to it is an advert for Car Insurance for the Over 50s, and a piece about well off pensioners donating fuel allowances to the less well off.

It also appeared in the Abingdon Herald today, redrafted for an Abingdon audience.

I’ve recognized this blog as a tour de force since I first found it in 2006 when looking for a house in Abingdon. Leaves all other media behind when it comes to local news and background. … evidenced by ‘breaking’ and running news of the proposed dread Drayton Road development. Good to hear that you might go back into politics (and get that well deserved mayoralty), but, hopefully, not at the expense of this blog.

I’ve been reading most days since the floods (I had moved away and it was the only place I could get anything up to date on the old town. Have since moved back home but still visit for the news from you and the comments of other readers. Long may the blog continue.

I visit daily, and have found our so much about the town through the blog, and also get quite a few hits through your link on the sidebar to my own bookish blog. So a double thank you! Long may the Abingdon Blog continue.

By far the best source of local news, puts the local paper to shame. Nice to see someone who values the town and what is going on with such a passion

Agree with all of the above. I’ll keep checking back until 999,999 visits…then let Backstreeter check his own blog out!

Thanks for keeping Abingdon informed, entertained and educated.

This blog is a community service of the highest order and is my first cyber-vist every day. Thank you, Alastair; and thank you all who comment – I don’t always agree, but I always learn something.

Great informative Blog and only about 40 Thousand to go.
Perhaps Backstreeter would let us know the average daily hit rate, then a Sweepstake on the “Million” time/date ?

Sounds a bit like one of those Ebay auctions where people, so I believe, wait until the last minute to make a final bid. Congratulation. As someone else said, this is one of the first things I do in the morning, even before eating!

I’ve always thought it kind of that man to hold the dog steady whilst he types the blog. I don’t care what anyone says, that dog has above average IQ…

Congrats Backstreeter – knowing just what an effort and commitment is required to keep a blog running successfully over years (!) your is a model of great – and balanced – journalism combined with true community spirit. In years to come it’ll prove an incredibly valuable social history document as well. Keep up the good work for the next million hits!
