The Old Post Office

What next for Blockbuster?
JD Wetherspoon have been at work fitting out the Old Post Office in Abingdon High Street to become a pub. Workmen have been in there for a while, but the boards round the front do make it more obvious.

This will be the final nail in the coffin for The Blue Boar, hopefully Des & Ali will keep their regulars in The Black Swan. Just glad that the building is going to be occupied again as it certainly has been an eye sore since the Post Office closed.

I will mean the Grapes will have to offer a better beer selection other than fizzy lager and at a more competative price!!

So much stereotyping! I have been to some lovely Wetherspoons pubs around the country they don’t seem to have any uniform style/brand.

AIUI CAMRA research shows that the reverse is true, Wetherspons brings more people in, they come for a drink or two and a quick bite and then tend to move on and make an eveing of it in other pubs. If it encourages those that need it to raise their game a bit, that’s a bonus.

it will only drive the other pubs out of existence if it offers a better combination of what pubgoers want – price/clientelle/selection/the pub itself.

The guy next to us in crumbs sandwich bar was worried about them coming to town . He now thinks it will help his business footfall .We opened next to QS/store twenty one and people thought we were crazy however if people are out shopping for clothes and they cant find what they are looking for in there they will try us next door .
