The new deli has been open for about three weeks now. They do fresh baked breads and pies, other meats, and a variety of interesting products from Bulgaria in the back room. They look to be doing well and are a welcome addition to the High Street and another shop unique to Abingdon.
Yesterday a friend from Reading told me how much she enjoyed her visits to Abingdon and going round all the different shops.
I have been aregular visitor to the new delicatessen. Lovely, interesting food and such nice people. Hope everyone supports them.
you can not beat the smell of fresh bread . Its great having another shop in the high street . Independant shops are the heart of the town they will always listen to suggestions and try accommodate all tastes and needs .
The independents are what makes Abingdon such a great place. Lets keep supporting them!!!
@Abingdon resident we appreciate the support and our shop supports local Abingdon people when you spend money in our shop we pay money to our customers and then they can spend in other shops in the town which hopefully helps everyone . Happy shopping everyone and have a Happy Christmas from everyone at Ybuynu
Who says that Grammar and Punctuation are not important ?
I may be getting a bit dull but I failed to understand that long sentence from Ybuynu. I must visit this shop that pays its customers.
Well I understood it Spike! But then, I have been a customer at Ybuynu and thus understand how their shop works..
@spike sorry i was in a rush . How our shop works you bring your items into our shop like clothes , toys , dvds ,books , etc we then sell them for you and then give you money when it has sold . This helps people get rid of unwanted gifts and also for them to get money back in these tough times . we have had many unwanted brand new gifts and clothes that are brand new that are too good for throwing away or giving to charity . We hope our shop helps the town as we have many items people want and everything that sells we give money to the owner and when they get their money they can spend it in our shop which helps the owner of that item or spend it round the town which helps local shops You can buy from us and then bring it back next week get something else and then receive money from the item your originally bought . There are many clothes where woman have bought in Reading spur of the moment and never tried them on got them home and they do not fit and they do not want to go back to Reading or throw it away so they can come to our shop and get money back . We also have lots of our own new items such as memorabilia and clothing . You would not believe the clothing people bring in which has never been worn it has been in the wardrobe some items in our shop brought in are £250 new and now they are still new but £30 we also had binoculars brand new never opened out the box worth £250 sold £60 talk about throw away society . we hope this money circulates and helps the people and traders in the town however we have more people bringing clothes than buying at the moment . We started as a designer womens clothes shop but was requested to take items in like gear change that was in Abingdon and now we are taking items such as books dvds cds paintings etc . When you buy from us you are helping your fellow Abingdon people the money goes back into the town which has to be good for everyone . I have been a Abingdon resident for over 30 years and this is my first shop it is strange as we have been open six months and still people come in today and say how long have you been open and they think we opened the day they walked in as people have not been coming into Abingdon because of the building work . I have to agree that with the local traders seen in the paper and the news that footfall in Abingdon is very very low and the traders work very hard and long hours but still have a smile on their face The independent shops in the town are fantastic they have been helpful to us and we recommend them to our customers . We did cater just for women but i am sure we have something for everyone now but if not i am sure there is a shop in town which will have what you need as we have jewelers book stores beauty treatment kids toys clothes coffee shops gift shops etc . This is a great town and will get better if we use it .I must apologise punctuality and grammar is not my strong point sorry for the long message and boring you .
@ Cassandra Thank you for visiting our shop we wish you a happy christmas and hope to see you soon
Noch Alles Klaar ! (not at all boring)
Thank you for that explanation. Next time I am home, I’ll probably browse there.
Long may A-O-T support the Independents.
Happy Christmas to all and thanks BS for this great, informative Blog
Ybuynu – Thank you for the explanation of how your shop works. I remember Gear Change from years ago and always thought it was a good concept. You should contact the local press and see if they can put an article in explaining what you do. I have a shop in town too but didn’t have a clue, I wonder how many more people would benefit from knowing how you operate. Merry Christmas!
Local Lass thank you for your comments I hope you and your family have a lovely Christmas and all the best with your shop x
I’d also like to encourage people to use our excellent local independent shops.
I was particularly pleased to see the initiative of the group of shops on and near Stert Street to open late on Tuesdays in the run up to Christmas. As someone who often doesn’t get back to Abingdon until after the normal shop closing time this was a real boon. Mostly Books and Added Ingredients also made it a pleasure to shop there.
i am an abingdon girl and didnt even know your shop existed until i read this thread. i used to love gear change, so brilliant to hear that something similar is up and running……
but i am one the very many that go straight to didcot for my shopping as everything i need is there. hopefully with the refurbishment of the centre, some big name shops will come to the town and will attract more shoppers like myself who will then also use the independent shops. abingdon hopefully is on the way, but generally has a very poor reputation around the county….so lets push our little town back up to the top where it belongs.
Lots of shops in Abingdon that Didcot don’t have!
Where in Didcot can you get ski boots or walking boots fitted?
And there is nowhere like that wonderful treasure trove – Masons!!!! It has a reputation far wider than the county.
@millihelen…….whilst i agree abingdon does have some very specialist shops….. but specialist shops wont bring the masses like in witney or didcot, both of which have been extremely busy with shoppers the past week, unlike abingdon!! so hence thats why i think the big names need to be encouraged to abingdon so then people can see what else we have to offer. i am abingdon born and bred and i think its sad our lovely little town is somewhere that is just passed through…..x
I don’t know how busy the shops were – but it was very difficult to find a parking space on both Monday and Tuesday mornings!
I think Abingdon needs a mixture of specialist and big names. But if shoppers are only wanting big names they will head for Oxford, Reading or Milton Keynes where the really big branches are.
If I only wanted to go to Fat Face, I would go to Oxford – but if I go into Abingdon instead because I know I can also go in Masons, a good friendly bookshop and an independent cafe!
I would like to thank Abingdon Blog we have had many new customers in the shop today because they saw us on this great website . I would like to say thank you and please keep up the good work
