A couple of years ago when the new pavements were first laid a utility contractor came and did some work. They then covered up the hole with tarmac, and left it like that to this day.

Because it happened once I half expect it to happen again.
Last weekend their was a leak near the Market Place. It had been there for maybe three weeks.

On Monday some contractors fixed the leak but left a lump of tarmac where there had been cobbles.

A second gang came today to complete the job.
Most jobs do get completed well and properly and don’t need chasing.
Moral of the Story : Good work goes largely unnoticed.
I know, we have brick pavers in the car park outside our flats. Every time someone comes along to replace/ repair one of the water meters the “repair” gets filled in with concrete ot tarmac. We dop however have an increasingly large pile of bricks!!
Well said Alastair!
While there is no excuse for shoddy work, you are dead right is saying that it’s the failures that get publicized. Perhaps we’re all catching this attitude from our ‘doom-laden’ media?

And to keep on this theme, the lift at the museum has also been fixed and is up and running again
‘Right’ said Fred.
I think you mean “up and down” Iain – in fact mainly down!
