There was a sudden last minute rush in the Birthdays Card Shop. Not only because it was Fathers Day.
But also because Birthdays are closing down and cards were greatly reduced.
From being a Four Card Shop town, Abingdon is now only a Two Card Shop town.
Dawsons – roof leaked. Hathaways – death dutied to be paid. Just Toys – went broke in Abingdon and Didcot. Birthdays – 2 cards shops is enough when most shops sell cards nowadays… Most shops have a different story.
why are all the shops closing in AbingdoN?
I think Hathaways was more of an anachronism at the end. How many baccy shops do you see nowadays? Apparently it originally opened in the 1930s and – not surprisingly – his children didn't want to take it on.
