JD Wetherspoon get planning permission in 2012

JD Wetherspoon Thumbs Up
JD Wetherspoon got planning permission on 28th June to convert the old Post Office into a pub. The last time JD Wetherspoon tried to adapt an Abingdon premises into a pub (where Ask is now), about ten years ago, they met concerted opposition.

This time round 5 letters of objection were received, alongside 14 letters of support. Times have changed.

Abingdon-on-Thames Town Council were in favour of the application so long as any outside heating was environmentally friendly – a condition the Vale District Council thought would be difficult to enforce. They also said the outside area was very small anyway. But good to see the Town Council trying to stand up to all that hot air being wasted

It will be interesting to see how Wetherspoons change the original facade. It could look more beautiful.

Great! Now all the local idiots can stay in there and me and my mates can go for a quiet drink in the Brewery Tap……Reading that back tells me I act too old for my age.

It’s quite a distinctive facade and could look great with a facelift. One more ‘live’ business in the town centre can’t be too bad… can it?

Looking at previous buildings that Wetherspoons have taken over, they are normally fairly loyal to the buildings original features. I dare say they will keep it similar to how it is now and just make it look a lot better.

That is good news especially as it seemed at one point that this could be scuppered by access issues.

If you look at the planning application it looks as though the main door will be where the post boxes used to be, right in the middle.

People with families will also visit Wetherspoons Rob 🙂 It is one of the few places where you can turn up with two of us, four children and a grandparent and they don’t bat an eyelid.

Say what you like about JDW, they are great retailers and run a tight ship, not everyone’s cup of tea but will bring in some new punters. Might even raise the game of some of the other pubs in town .

I agree with Lordsinjun, the Kings Head & Brewery Tap are pushing £5 a pint on some drinks, perhaps it will help bring their prices down to a more competitive rate!

It just about defeats the purpose of shopping for on the web.
Do you know lots of of these complications just require
    a schedule routine maintenance?
