2012 Program of Market Place Events

Paul and Mike
The Chamber of Commerce AGM was last Night. Paul was re-elected as President for another year, and Mike as Secretary. They can be seen together on this rather fuzzy picture.

The Market Place has been comparatively quiet over the winter months, but things start happening in March when Paul and Mike organise the first ever Fair Trade Market on 3rd March. It involves local business that sell Fair Trade products coming out together onto the Market Place. There is also an Abingdon Fair Trade directory.

Paul and Mike are also planning the next Local Excellence Market on the 31st March. And many more events during the year. All visible on the 2012 Program of Market Place Events.

Is it part of the role of “Abingdon – on – Thames Chamber of Commerce President ” to be seen standing around at Market Place ‘events’ wearing three quarter length track suit bottoms ? Or is this modern business attire ? Am I just a bit old fashioned ? In relation to the recent news in the ‘ Abingdon – on Thames Herald ‘ that the Old Gaol work is at last well underway , I noticed that the ‘ President ‘ of the Chamber of Commerce was quoted ( as he seems to be most weeks ) that the Old Gaol development was part of Abingdon – on – Thames ” Re – Branding” . What does a disheveled man who wears three quarter length track suit bottoms at official events know about ‘Re Branding “? Or again am I just old fashioned ? Do our local dignitaries and Councillors take these two “muppets” ( modern terminology ) seriously ? More importantly is this the best local business can do ?

At least they are doing something for this town & if he stands on the market place “wearing three quarter lengths” at least he is prepared to get involved in things, not just turn up when everone else has done the work.

I think maybe it is part of the role of the Abingdon on Thames Chamber of Commerce President to wear 3/4 length tracksuit bottoms.
It makes him easily recognisable and I think he would look out of place at a weekend market place event in a suit!
