I see skies of blue and clouds of white, a bright sunny day, boats moored for the night, and I think to myself what a wonderful world.
Barges going upstream
smaller boats come down.
People sat together
very near to town …
I see trees of green, red houses too …
I like the river through Abingdon too but I can’t say it makes me think the world wonderful. I really hate that song.
Especially with a closed down pub on the bridge, a building site for the Old Goal and a town hall covered in scaffolding!! Yeah, really wonderful!!l
the closed pub was one where 18 year olds felt like pensioners and the building site is a sign of regeneration – you just have to be positive!
True, I went in there a couple of times when it was a youth club full of Stella drinkers. I also remember the place when it was a good pub back in the early 90s. It has a lot of potential and it could be a fanstatic place if the right people took it on.
The Old Gaol being a building site and the scaffolding being up round the Town Hall are both positive signs that investment is coming into the town!
