The old Abbey Press works on Thamesview, just over the fence from the Abbey Gardens, look as if a bomb has hit it.
The old print works have been ‘To Let’ since the Abbey Press moved to near Fairacres about five years ago. Some of the adjoining building was used until recently. I think it was an MOT centre. But now the whole lot is being demolished – quite possibly for a care home.
It was an MOT centre – MultiCheck – run by husband and wife team Dave and Val – and was the best darned garage ever. Honest, reliable, and really nice – so rare to find and their retirement was greeted by wailing and gnashing of teeth by me at least!
Why can’t we have more faceless, dull and couldbeanywhere blocks of housing? That’s just what Abingdon needs.
I tiotally agree with you Julian, was such a shame when Dave and Val left. They are surely missed ;0(
Kaz – you can usually spot them in Costa most days – I think they live there!
That’s right, Dave. What everyone really wants is to live in the full-of-character old gaol or an old barn set in 15 acres of land with a view over the Thames.
Sadly, there’s a shortage of housing, there’s land going — houses need to go up.
Maybe it was the Vulcan that bombed it?
First went to multicheck 20 years ago. Wet back again and again. Never had such good service
Kev – where do you go now? I’m struggling to find anywhere in Abingdon that provides anything like the similar service that Multcheck did.
Somebody needs to fill this new gap in the market in Abingdon, they be on for a winner. I too miss this company and take the car to the one near the college. Not bad but ain’t the same satisfaction.
