Drayton Road Gas Works Still Causing Delays

Drayton Road has long been one of Abingdon’s most congested routes.

A sign on Drayton Road warned of gas mains replacement works with multi-way traffic lights “for two weeks from 4th August.” The fact that the works are still ongoing has caught some people off guard, raising concerns that the delays might continue and get worse after schools return on 2nd September.

However, One.Network lists the schedule from 4th August 10:30 until 29th August 23:59 — nearly four weeks in total — so the works should finish before the new school term.

You can check the latest updates on the One.Network website.

There has also been a sign up the whole time, near Mill Road, stating roadworks for 2 weeks from 18.08, so it’s there but some confusion. At least this time, during the day, the lights have been manually operated to avoid too large a problem. And they were resurfacing today so hopefully finished tomorrow, on time.

Off subject I know (sorry) but does anyone know why a number of England/St. George’s flags have appeared in Abingdon? They look to have been carefully fixed to lamp-posts. Is someone saying “No asylum seekers here”?

Read any newspaper and you’ll soon get the picture – nothing to do with patriotism and a lot to do with dog whistling

What you are saying then, lain, is that no one should fly the England flag no matter what the occasion is and anyone who does is suspect?

No that’s clearly not what I’m saying, nor what I wrote. The current grafitti-ing crosses on roundabouts and rogue flag posting on street furniture is part of a campaign to dog whistle up division.
