The Abingdon Monk has been making news.
He fell over, lay on the traffic roundabout for weeks, and then disappeared.
People commented that he had a giant chip on his shoulder after reappearing.
Ben has sent a picture to show that he has now acquired a little friend.
Friendship is contagious! I hope he acquires many more!
There was a slot on BBC new where the mayor of Abingdon said that Oxford Wood recycling was going to repair the monk.
Oh great, now the roundabout will become an uncared fdumping ground for “cute” characters. Soon to be an eyesore
It would give us something to smile about as we wait in traffic queues. Who knows; the gnomes of Abingdon may make the national news.
( I’m sure any excess will be taken away…..)
@ChrisS that is exactly the problem…..there is an assumption that SOMEONE will take things away but as we’ve seen with the Monk, there is little to no desire for people/organisations to take responsibility
If you make a sign up yourself, say… “Welcome to Abingdon” and put that on the roundabout….I am sure that whichever council tells you to take it down (due to health and safety, no planning permission, no carbon offsetting blah blah blah); well….that’s the council responsible for the roundabout?
Most of the roundabouts are responsibility of the County Council who’s Highways Department ‘look after’ the bulk of the non-arterial roads
Yes but the Monk Saga has shown that they are not interested (and why should the be?!) In maintaining or dealing with objects that are randomly left there by individuals and other organisations.
And Daniel assuming the sign reveals the name of my event or business yes they could approach me to take it down. But in the case.of random junk this becomes a lot more difficult to resolve
Everyone needs a good friend…Joy is contagious.
