The waste collectors have had time off over Christmas, and as Christmas creates a lot of extra waste, they are working on Saturdays for three weeks to catch up.
There is also the usual range of post-Christmas Sales as seasonal stock is cleared in many shops.
The post-Christmas sales are a chance to buy Christmas Trees at 50% off.
Cards are also 50% off. (With the postal strikes and no local Scouts post, card sales are probably lower this year.)
We have not had any post for over a week. Although people support the postal workers in wanting a better wage it was not a good time to strike over Christmas. There are people living on their own who look forward to hearing from their friends and loved ones over Christmas.
I think the postal workers were only on strike for 2 days (23-24 Dec) during that period – then there were 2 days of public holidays. We certainly got mail on all the other days.

In the words of Sade:
🎶What night is bins?
Got to know right now
What night is bins?
Never want to doubt
What night is bins?
Round&round&round my head
Touching the very part of me
It’s making my soul sing
Tearing the very heart of me
I’m crying out for news
What night is bins?
