North Abingdon growth area

A lot more houses have been built in the north Abingdon growth area.

A theme is developing on the Kings Gate Estate. Rather than Kings, the names being used are ex-Mayors of Abingdon; the latest to be revealed is George Aird, mayor from 1986 to 1987.

The developing road name theme on the Abbey Fields estate appears to be ex-Abingdon businesses. Hathaways was the tobacconist in the High Street.

Baileys sold and repaired shoes on Bath Street.

The entrance driveway to a new shop is being made.

The building is mostly complete and the shop is being kitted out and the car park laid. The opening is expected in December 2022.

As to the Lodge Hill Interchange work, paid for by these developments, the Oxfordshire County Council Website says ‘Phase One currently consists of submitting a planning application in early October 2022.’

I don’t think that has happened. Work on Abingdon Bridge was also expected to start in October 2022.

Just an observation but will the Lodge Hill junction improvement ever actually happen? Time is the enemy, the longer it takes the more expensive it gets.
The works on Abingdon bridge are also dragging somewhat and are at risk of becoming a permanent feature. Less serious but also important has anyone noticed that an area of the steel reinforcement on the underside of the larger span has become exposed and needs to be repaired before further damage occurs.

If lodge hill actually happens it will just make a bad situation with traffic in Abingdon even worse. With bad traffic on the A34 just looking for the first junction to leave. If its between Milton Park and Marcham road. guess where it will go?
Abingdon bridge feel like its just in a holding Patten and nothing will get done. Its causing traffic to queue all the way from Radley rd through the vineyard just to get past the traffic lights and over the bridge. Plus what damage is it doing to the other side of the bridge with all this extra traffic going over it?

Yes I feel the same. It is the usual story. Houses are being built without the proposed improvements to the road and traffic through Abingdon.

I hope never. It is totally unnecessary. We have a perfectly good outer ring road between Lodge Hill and Marcham Road. For the sake of a bit less traffic on this and the A415 between Colwell Drive and Marcham Road it is hardly cost-effective.

The more traffic travelling around the ring road to the roundabout past the police station means that the traffic will be held up through the town down Ock Street and the Drayton Road. It is fairly bad now. It takes ages sometimes to get down the Drayton Road because of the hold up at the roundabout.
