I saw the large posters in the window. ‘SALE Everything must go!’
The sad news is that after 31 years Prices Stationers are to close.
The posters had been put up on Saturday night. Some people had learned through Facebook. Monday morning at Prices was manic. By the time we saw the poster it had calmed down and there was time for tears.
Marian was there stocking up on sketch pads. My wife stocked up on acrylic paints. I got a large notebook for a diary.
It was one of the best of Abingdon shops. The people behind the counter were friends. Running a business like that does not allow much family time or holiday time. There are also problems of trying to make enough money from retail in 2021. And some of us at this time in life are getting older and need to slow down.
Thankyou to Prices for being there for 31 years.

“Stationery at amazing Prices”. Always went there for the kids school projects paraphernalia. Hope they have a wonderful retirement.
That is a shame. It is a good stationery shop.
How very sad, I always considered this to be one of THE shops in the town and something that added to the diversity of retailers and services/products available over the counter here. As said above I hope they have a long and happy retirement.
They were also a blessing for many people during lockdown, providing click and collect or telephone ordering, even some deliveries, to help all of those who were doing art and craft activities to while away the time. And their photocopying services were really useful. Good old-fashioned personal service – knowledgeable and always friendly – they will be sorely missed.
You have given us a wonderful service, Anil, Kalpana and your assistants, for all these years. We are going to miss your friendly and helpful attention. I hope you will remain in Abingdon and that we will continue to see you around town? Hope that you both remain in good health and have a wonderful, happy retirement and that Karen, Lesley and Jackie will quickly find other jobs. With best wishes
