Shakeshop move and freedom not full freedom

A sign has appeared in the window of Shakeshop in Stert Street to say they will be moving to a bigger place in August.

The new place will be 18 Bury Street, the old Southern Gas showroom – where many of us bought our first cooker.

The word ‘freedom’ was used by Southern Gas in 1974 to promote cooking with the latest cooker.

July 19th 2021 is the delayed freedom day, the move to Step 4 and the end of the COVID-19 legal restrictions. A lot of businesses, and organisations, will not take full advantage of the new freedom yet. There has been a large rise in COVID-19 cases since the move to Step 3 and the delta variant.

Great to hear that one of our local start-up businesses has done well enough to be able to move to bigger premises.
The unit they are moving to become a menswear shop then a toy shop after the gas show rooms. But for the last few years it has been the Community FreeSpace, providing a venue for community groups, schools and other not-for-profit organisations to put on free exhibitions, displays etc -and the windows often advertised forthcoming events. During much of 2020 it was used by AbiMeds as the hub for their prescription delivery service.
It was managed by volunteers from the Friends of Abingdon Civic Society, who are very much hoping to be able to get the use of one of the other empty units for community purposes of all kinds.q

Boris looked ill on the TV news yesterday evening. There are certainly grounds to question his judgement/sainity. He’s brought a lot of pressure on himself.

The best of fortune to all those ‘out there’ given the weeks to come.
