BAD NEWS…
Val is closing down Frugal Food. I don’t know why. The notice says “Stock up while you can!!“
On a selfish note… I don’t know where I’ll be able to get that fresh tasting Bombay Mix and those Samosas and pies and other things that she sells but you cannot find anywhere else. She has been the one who has promoted Fair Trade, and healthy ecologically friendly food, long before the rest of us caught on… or at least tried to catch on but didn’t always.
I agree – for many years Frugal Foods were the only place in town to get those special bits and pieces, it is sad to see them go.
On a more cheerful note, there are notices on the door of the old Woolies to say that Cargo are moving in there – they must have had second thoughts about abandoing us for Didcot! the grapevine tells me that the building may be divided up into smaller units, but it will be great to see Cargo back.

Did go to Frugal Foods to stock up and got the last of the Panda Licorice, a good bag full of Bombay Mix, and some pear spread. It is not through choice Val is closing but because there has not enough custom. Frugal Foods have been going for 31 years.
This is really good news about the new paving on the High Street. As a recent wheelchair user and now a slow stick walker, having broken my ankle badly 5 months ago, I have been appalled at the state of the pavements in the town generally. The High Street is definitely the worst culprit, with not one level surface and too many obstacles like scaffolding, bikes, sandwich boardsetc. The worst piece is the corner of St Helens street and High Street, outside the Thai Foodstore. New paving cannot come quick enough for us!
