Proposed Dental Surgery with fine views of the River Thames

Proposed Dental Surgery
There are some new planning application notices outside the Old Gaol riverside entrance.

This part of the Old Gaol development started off as a shop and 2 cafes, then local opinion suggested that a shop would be superfluous and the developers changed that to 3 restaurant / cafes. Only Costa Coffee has so far moved in, and so now one unit could become a dental surgery with views onto the River Thames.

Looking at the plans the glass fronted area could become treatment room 1. People will be able to watch for King Fishers as they get their teeth crowned.

The converted cottages on Bridge Street could still become a Cafe / Bar.

I don’t think I’d want my teeth done in full view of boaters, Annie’s customers, bridge-crossers or Old Gaol residents. I hope they plan good one- way glass.

Again… proof that retailers don’t want to come to Abingdon (meaningful retailers) be that stores or restaurants..

I always think the front of the building facing the river looks bare. A few nice trees or shrubs would make it look nicer.

On 16.03.2017 this blog published 3 photos from BRIAN of the Old Goal ‘before/during/after’ the development showing mature trees on site before the works.
On 17.03.2017 JULIAN wrote Cranbourne, the developers were obligated to plant a mature replacement willow tree by the planning authority which still remains outstanding !

Quite agree about the hideous glass sculpture. Bring back our willows! Why isn’t the Vale enforcing the re-planting?

The Vale won’t enforce any planning restrictions, as it would be too costly for them to take a developer to court. (In layman’s terms, if you have enough money behind you, you can stick two fingers up to whatever planning restrictions that you don’t particularly like, or would cost you money!)
