October Progress on two major Abingdon developments

October Progress
The Churchill retirement homes development on Ock Street has reached a couple of storeys high in October.

It looks even higher at the rear of the site.

Meanwhile the Fairacres Phase 2 demolition has not far to go.

Pictures around the site shows how it will look with the larger car park enclosed in the centre of shopping centre. All those cars will leave by the existing route. People did raise concerns when the plans were authorised about how slow it will be getting out during rush hour.

Potential for a near gridlock situation every evening rushhour which will only dissuade people from shopping there. Blacklands Way needs to be opened to through traffic.

    potential ? a guarentee I’d say….

But as I’m sure Daniel will remind us in a minute, I’m sure a consultant looked at the traffic on a Sunday morning at 7am, and declared it not an issue, before taking his sack of cash home..

cynical moi ? What we should be doing is pulling together, and supporting a monorail from this out of town development to the heart of Abingdon, that will bring the crowds for sure..

rudi – OCC could of course purchase it from whoever and make it not so Private and remove some of the load from the current bottleneck. Bit of a faux pas not to have insisted on right of way when that MG land was developed in the early 80’s, little has changed since then apart from Colwell Drive actually leading somewhere.
