The Abingdon Camera Club will be at Clubs and Societies Day at the Guildhall this Saturday (along with many others). Peter sent me one of his pictures of Bagley Wood in the snow, and the following details about the club:
Our Camera Club is a small group of friendly people of all ages who like taking photographs. Whether you are experienced or a beginner, you would be most welcome, even if you do not have a camera, but would like advice. We have visits from experienced photographers, who comment on our images; we take photographs on a particular theme; we visit other Clubs and they visit us to compare pictures; and we have an annual exhibition in the town. We have demonstrations about technique, presentation and software use, and meet weekly on Thursday evening at 8pm at the Methodist Church Hall, Dorchester Crescent, (off Appleford Drive, behind the Boundary House Pub) .
People can read all about us, and see some of our images at http://www.abingdoncameraclub.org.uk.
The clubs and societies day should be very interesting. I hope you don;t mind if I raise another matter. National Health Services are being privatized in Oxfordshire leading to fragmentation of services. 35 degrees are tendering a petition to reverse the decision to privatise cancer screening and taking it away from the NHS and the Churchill hospital. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2019/mar/13/halt-privatisation-of-cancer-screening-or-risk-patient-harm-mps-tell-nhs-england
The Orthopeadic hub has already been privatised with unsatisfactory consequences and due to a botched contract Abingdon hospital lost its phisiotherapy services. NHS Englands board who awards the contract have members who have worked for private companies or who have interests in private companies so best placed to carve up the NHS and privatise it.
At the last Clubs and Societies Day held a few years ago in the Guildhall, there were over fifty different organizations – something for everyone!
Indeed peter all we need now is for the model railway club to come back !
Their show is on tomorrow too, at Abingdon Witney College, so people can go to both – and the Young Enterprise Fair in the Market Place and several talks in the Museum. Another busy Abingdon Saturday.
PS I hope regular readers of this will come and see the Friends of Abingdon stall tomorrow.
Hester – didn’t know the model railway club expo was on tomorrow! Just googled it, £8 entrance charge, I don’t think so!
Pendon is a better bet for model railway enthusiasts I would have thought (£7.50 adults; £6.50 Senior Citizens).
I now expect thirty reasons why it’s not!
Ha PPJS – I agree with you, but both worth a visit, Pendon is amazing, the detail and size of the main layout is staggering, I can remember Roy ????? the founder riding his bike around with sketch book in his bag, he’d stop off at some interesting building or junction anywhere in the Vale sketch and take accurate details then create a model, wonderful man
One of the things about the big Pendon layout is that it allows trains with more than three coaches to chug across the landscape rather than whiz around a little circle/oval. I once counted a train there with eighty coal trucks – stunning. That said, the models at the expo will be very accomplished. I would have gone, but I am participating in an advanced driving day in Hampshire.
