The Regal Evesham together with the Friends of Abingdon will be showing films in the Unicorn Theatre from November.
The plan is to show new release films – probably starting with Paddington 2 and then the new Murder on the Orient Express and the new Star Wars. After Christmas there are some new British films coming out and they also hope to show the occasional classic film and some special events.
This is a trial cinema for a few months over the winter. The operators are keen to establish a permanent base in Abingdon but that won’t be long term in the Unicorn.
This evening saw the start of the new season of films with the ABCD Film Society in Abingdon who show their films at the Abbey Centre on Audlett Drive. Their first film was Arrival.
Wishing this every success. Hopefully, this will persuade someone that there’s a market for a movie-house in Abingdon, ideally in Bury Street/central to retail outlets.
Fantastic!
It is a good idea especially for those who do not wish to travel to Didcot or Oxford.
Really great, hope it’s well publicised. Thank you Friends of Abingdon and the Regal
Agreed, excellent.
Great idea. Hope it is well publicised!!!!
Oh to be able to walk to the cinema. What a superb idea.
Magic – at last some green shoots for entertainment in the town centre Congratulations to whoever had the foresight to put this trial together.
Also, there’s a film night “on the island” at The Nags from next Thursday too… Who’d have thought…a market…for films…in Abingdon!?
We need an accessible cinema in Abingdon, the disabled bays outside the cinema in Didcot have been replaced by a bench!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fully agree – this is wonderful news and it’s great to be welcoming professional cinema back to Abingdon after a 30 year absence.
My family have been to the Evesham Regal several times and it is a really distinctive experience attracting its audience both from the town and further afield. Exactly what Abingdon has been crying out for.
We will be actively supoorting this trial at the Unicorn (well done Friends of Abingdon), and wish them every success in finding a permanent home here.
Brilliant idea. I look forward to seeing the programme and booking arrangements.
