Blessing the Bells at St Michael’s

Blessing the Bells
The Rt Rev’d Rowan Williams was at St Michael and All Angels, Abingdon-on-Thames, this evening for the big 7.30 pm service to bless the restored three bells.

After a long period of disuse, White’s of Appleton have just finished the work to get them back working.
Blessing the Bells
Three young ringers from St Helen’s were invited to ring them for a short period in front of the congregation …

By the wonders of the internet you can hear them too.

Excellent. What has happened to St Helens Clock Bell? I was by the Tower today at 12 noon when it struck 12 times, I could hardly hear it.

There is nothing wrong with the clock at st Helens. It depends entirely on where you are standing..if you are close to the tower, you won’t hear it as loud from 30ft away because of the angle of the louvres. A new clock bell was installed recently to make it a bit louder and this project was successfully achieved.
