Nov 6th – just outside Abingdon

November 6th
At Dalton Barracks airfield this evening there was a funfair and bonfire.

The warmth from the fire did help keep people from getting too cold in the wait for the fireworks.

We remembered again in 2016 Guy Fawkes’ failed gunpowder plot against James I in 1605. In celebration of his survival, James ordered that we should have a great bonfire on the night of November 5th.

Thank you to the army for providing this evening’s entertainment with the funfair, blazing bonfire and fabulous fireworks.

Blazing bonfires and fireworks are lovely but it was better when fireworks were only let off on 5th November. Now it is a nightmare for pet owners as fireworks are let off for a week before the 5th and a week after.

On a totally different storey my husband rang me at 12.45pm to say he was leaving the Drayton Golf Course
He has just rung at 1,55pm to say he is still in Drayton this
Situation is becoming unbearable on the Drayton Road

We have been let down by Nimmo Smith and his indifference to the traffic problem on the Drayton Road into Abingdon. The queue was dreadful all today. This is before the 500 approx more cars will come down the road from the housing developments.

Top photo looks almost like something from a superhero film with someone setting things alight from their eyes 🙂

Janet – Both Barber and Nimmo Smith fail us on a daily basis there is little we can do to change this unfortunately.

Ck2 – Kind of releases all the building land the town could ever need and points to the fact that the answer to the FOI request was a lie.

Who knows Badger, but wouldn’t it make an ideal choice instead of a third runway at Heathrow? One of the longest runways? Next to A34, 15 mins from M4/40, one hour from London, Birmingham, Southampton, now there’s s thought ✈️

Ck2 – I think it’s too close to the A34 fortunately, really would give everyone something to talk about though. I don’t think it’ll remain as an airfield given the talk of bargain MOD land sell off’s, enough space to build another Abingdon almost, I wonder where everyone is going to work.

Ck2 – Although Dalton Barracks won’t fully close until 2029 I think recent talk of land sales point to some of it being built on much sooner. I don’t think this will stall any of the plans to expand the town to the north it’ll just be the next part of the local plan, more dormitory space if you like.

Dalton Barracks in Abingdon, St David’s Barracks in Bicester and Vauxhall Barracks in Didcot, there’s talk of 55,000 homes being built on these three sites over the next decade or so. A34 will be gridlocked unless that and the surrounding transport routes are seriously upgraded.

55000 is the number of houses they are talking about being built across all of the 56 sites being sold off – not the three in Oxfordshire. The units on the oxfordshire sites arent scheduled to relocate until 2028/9.

Iain – or anyone else who knows:

Does the 2028/29 date relate to all the Oxfordshire sites – in other words, is it a common date? Or is it a date by which all sites should have become available – in other words, is it an end date?

Just interested – no axe to grind!
