New Jeweller and rumour of a new Estate Agent

Sunday Morning
What was a shoe shop for children, next to Throwing Buns, is to become a Jeweller. And I hear from Peter that the guitar shop in Stert Street will become an Estate Agents.

There is a town council meeting on 5th October which I cannot attend. I expect they will be making progress on the Guildhall and the Local Area Plan.

I’ll be at Preston Road Community Centre where we have the monthly committee meeting. So if anybody can make it to the town council to write a report that would be good. It is 7 pm in the Roysse Room.

With Matty Barbour accepting the building of 1000’s of houses in Abingdon – on our behalf, there’ll be a need for another estate agents….

The town also has free wi-fi.

Good luck to those who take over these shops. Abingdon needs these, and all the other empty units in the town to be filled, witness how quickly unoccupied premises drag the area down. Estate agents we have aplenty, but at least they will fill an otherwise empty shop.

Along with many others, I would like to see Abingdon filled with shops many and various, but at present it don’t seem likely, shame really.

With Tesco and Fairacres getting all the planning permissions they need and offering good parking there’s no need for a lot of shoppers to negotiate the AbiTS fiasco followed by more recent ‘inspired traffic solutions’ … are you surprised Dave?

We shouldn’t be too hard on the current council planners for being nitwits as they inherited a legacy of generations of nitwit council planners. Many ‘unforeseen circumstances’ are the result of those too thick to think.

As I wrote here years ago … Groundhog Day .. I’m stuck in Groundhog Year … the a future for a viable Town Centre will be more social that retail.

Have the Vale and TC got a plan for this. Have they … (choose word of your own choosing).

If all the supposed building takes place we’ll need another Supermarket or the existing Tesco made even larger and the connecting road improved to handle the increased traffic which at peak it can’t handle now.
Regarding central Abingdon, as has been said above and previously, potential shoppers need to be encouraged to visit the town centre not made to suffer (either by traffic, parking or poor choice of retailers) otherwise ultimately everything will be a car journey away not a walk or cycle ride.

… But the ‘car’ badger is a scourge on society, only second to Brexit. And many would rather both were uninvented. Your faith in the forward thinking of…well, anyone who might be involved, is commendable.

    In Mrs May’s speech this afternoon, one of the things she said was;

“Our democracy should work for everyone, but if you’ve been trying to say things need to change for years and your complaints fall on deaf ears, it doesn’t feel like it’s working for you.”

I’m just curious… Did Matty Barber applaud that bit I wonder…?

Definitely an estate agent going into what was Fine Guitars, hopefully beginning of November. It’s good to see some of the empty units, apart from in Bury St precinct, being taken so quickly. Another independant business in Stert Street. 🙂

I’m sure, Daniel, that Matthew is infinitely malleable once he sees which way the prevailing wind is blowing. I’m hoping that in jumping to his feet to wildly applaud he didn’t spill an £11.45 double G&T.

Surely, his first post-hangover job will be to attend to both the FOIs Abingdon First have just submitted.

It must be around 12 months since the BID was voted in, any news on what they have achieved/are planning? Seems to have gone quiet (by this I’m not implying they are not doing anything, just that there isn’t much publicity).

It’s not for us, it’s for shop keepers and businesses. Unless you are one of those, don’t worry about it.

Ck2 – I thought just for a second there it was going to be someone selling Peacocks… but no, it’s a clothing store, I might even find myself shopping in there perhaps.
