Road Closure Sign next to Triple Yellow Lines

Road Closure Sign
The Heritage Weekend road closure signs have arrived. The diversion is down East St Helen Street and up West St Helen Street. While taking this picture I noticed there is a double yellow line one side,
Road Closure Sign
and a triple yellow line the other. I checked the Highway Code but could not find triple yellow lines.

Triple yellow lines – the HC does not specify or describe such a marking. If you have the cash park on the lines, wait for the warden, collect the ticket and advise the magistrates that the marking is illegal.

Alternatively, ignore the error and treat them as double yellows!

Do you know what worries me most about all this? We have Alistair , Hester & co all running around doing their utmost to put on a show for us all, then Jackie Smith, font of all things Abingdon sharing her knowledge of all things Abingdon, I look at the photos here of the audience and I see one common dinominator ? They’re/ we’re all clicking on a bit! How can we encourage the younger amongst us to be more active in the community before its list forever?

If the last comment refers to the talk about Abingdon Bridge, then probably the (slightly) younger of us were at work. I would love to have gone to this, but can’t on a weekday lunchtime.
It was encouraging today to see, despite the weather, a lot of people of all ages, but especially children, enjoying the heritage events and displays.

Thanks Kelly – I was in the Abbey Buildings most of the day and we had lots of families in there – it was lovely. I am told that the Market Place which had the events speficially aimed at families was busy all day.

You are right, lunchtime talks are not good for working people – we also had an evening talk on Friday and the attendance was very good, but not quite as many as the lunchtime one, and there were quite a few people there without grey hair. We need to keep offering both.

Capt K – Heritage Weekend is a once a year event – there at at least 3 societies in Abingdon offering monthly heritage-related talks in the evening all year round – all of them advertised on the Abingdon town website and regularly getting reasonable audiences. It is a fact of life that until people retire they are usually too busy with work and family to get regularly involved with things like this: the cycle moves on, when we are all gone, the next generation will come along -so long as we keep our heritage alive to pass on to them, it will be fine!

CK – i think the age of people who volunteer varies a lot depending on what activities you participate in. Most of the thriving sports clubs in town have many more youthful volunteers as do organisations such as the scouts/guides and the drama/music clubs seem to have strong youth elements

I sincerely hope so Ian, it would be such a travesty if all our heritage ( as backstreeter so kindly reminds us of ) should disappear from our thoughts and interest !!
