Pokémon Craze hits Abingdon

Play and Activity Day
On Friday evening I was taking a picture of Abingdon County Hall when 3 young lads came near aiming their smart phones at a point nearby. I could not see what rare Pokémon they were trying to catch as Pokémon are not visible on my camera.

The official Pokémon website explains: “As you move around, your smartphone will vibrate to let you know you’re near a Pokémon. Once you’ve encountered a Pokémon, take aim on your smartphone’s touch screen and throw a Poké Ball to catch it. Be careful when you try to catch it, or it might run away!”

As mysterious as the Work to start here signs which have appeared on the Marcham and Drayton Roads recently. It seems nobody knows what they are for either, or are they just not telling. Spooky or what.

Dave; pretty sure they are for the new lights at the entrance to Moorland Gardens.

I must admit, a wry smile crossed my face as the traffic queued from the double roundabouts back to Moorland Gardens yesterday… Still, one step closer to resolving the housing crisis. Mustn’t Grumble.

I can’t work out whether this craze is above or below trainspotting. You can see trains, but chasing imaginary things? I’m sure it’s harmless…..but an invisible 10 foot high yellow creature in Abingdon. Help!

I think the Sunday tailback results from the car boot sales; it’s been a regular feature for several years now.

Any T/Ls at the Moreland Gardens entrance would presumably have to be phased in with the existing lights at the junction with Preston Road – perhaps in a three-way operation. I bet the traffic engineers will be thrilled…

Your faith in the system ppjs is commendable.

I reckon that they’ll put in new lights and it either will, or won’t have an effect elsewhere. If there’s no negative effect that’ll be down to good luck, not good management.

However, this is a small price to pay to get all those first time buyers on the housing ladder at Moorland Gardens.

I can categorically tell you that the traffic queue on Saturday was not caused by the boot sale on Sunday. I’m almost certain.

Pokemon Go is quite good (not that I’ve played) …… my son and his friends walked 8 miles ‘collecting’ them at the weekend. Finally a game that get’s our youngsters out for some exercise!! 🙂

I agree, anything that gets anyone outside and exercising is a good thing, but there are individuals who will become obsessed and start being inconsiderate / rude just to get a virtual pet. I had a go the other evening to see what the fuss was about and discovered two areas of interest which doubled up as pokiestops where you can gain in game resources but also learn about things like the MG Boards near the double minis.
