The most comments ever on this blog was in July 2011 for Tesco Express 2
Tesco had taken over the Fitzharris Arms and turned it into a Tesco Express – very close to an existing convenience store called The One Stop.
The Ox pub was just about to go the same way, and become a Tesco Express – next door was another convenience store called Best One.
Five years on both Tesco Extras are still there as are the nearby convenience stores, although Best One is now Bargain Booze.
One Stop is also owned by Tesco
I was sceptical about the claim that One Stop is owned by Tesco, so did some research and the latest Companies house return by One Stop Stores Ltd (company 02462858) does show Tesco owning 95% of the shares, although it is run as an independent private Limited company.

and to think all the doom and gloom spread before they opened – with supposed research claiming the tesco would lead to traffic chaos etc.
it didn’t.
5 years, how time flies! And I’ve not shopped in either of those mini Tesco’s yet.
Perhaps because no one shops there, there are so few deliveries needed, so there’s no traffic doom and gloom?
There’s always a que in the one on the Oxford Rd
Whenever I pass the Oxford Road store in the daytime there seem to be people around, especially so after the schools kick their pupils out in the afternoon, I guess it’s a good source of crisps, drinks and sweets.
The old Ox pub store is frequently busy however the staff are unhelpful and don’t rush to the tills if there’s a queue
