Good Friday Witness 2015

Good Friday Witness 2015
This morning worshippers and clergy from various Abingdon churches followed a cross down the precinct to mark Good Friday, one of the most important days in the Christian Calendar – the day when Jesus had to carry his own cross and to be crucified.

There was a minute or two of solemn silence on the Market Place before the parade followed the cross to St Nicolas Church for a service or hymns, prayers, and reflections.

I don’t have any faith myself, but I have no time for Richard Dawkins, who may have many qualities, but emotional intelligence is not one of them.. Wherever you get the emotional succour you need in times of stress is fine by me.

As that great Irish philosopher, Dave Allen, used to say, ‘May your God be with you’..

    And forget ‘the solemn’.

Newcomer. The bible was put together in the Council of Nicea where the Roman Emperor Constantine wanted to elevate Jesus to a god (as the Romans did with their Emperors, guaranteed a following). They decided what gospels to put into the Codex. They left out the Gospel of Mary and others as it would show that Jesus was human. Today’s religion has been tailored to suit whatever organisation wanted the power. Historical truth has been doctored. I am for truth in all things. I hate to deceive our children with untruths.

Frankly, Janet, I don’t care. I’m more concerned about how the politicians are trying to deceive us.

all gods are as real or as fake as each other – just pick what suits your needs and never expect or demand anyone else to alter their actions to suit your beliefs.
and then we will all be happy.
