Unit 2 Closing

Unit 2 Closing
It is mentioned in the planning application about opening a restaurant at 1-3 Bury Street that Unit 3 is potentially soon to become vacant. A Closing Down notice has now appeared in the window.

From 4 dedicated card shops, a few years ago, there will soon be just the one in Abingdon. Although increasingly, other retailers offer greeting cards.

traditionally cards have been ridiculously overpriced – no wonder card factory has flourished with their far more down to earth charges

would have been better to keep the card shop and have the restaurant in the existing empty units….cant see anyone taking the big double one in Bury Street that has been vacant for how long now? maybe another cheap discount store could move in? as there clearly isnt enough of them already.

Hallmark is no grest loss. It was stuffed full of nothing but overpriced tat. Far nicer cards can be found in the Gift Centre – a proper local independent retailer.

Sadly, I see the Shoe Shop of Abingdon in Bath St is closing down. Apparently their lease has run out. A real shame – I’ve bought some lovely shoes from there.

Why, if one card shop is already established, would another have been allowed in the same vicinity in the first place? Same goes for the opticians. Surely it’s only inevitable that one will close. How many chemists, hairdressers and opticians does one need?

Competition, and the longest established one lost out this time.

Shame … Thorntons will be gone now 🙁

I must say it isn’t a shop I would go to. Card factory to buy birthday cards for children and The Gift Centre for other cards. Thorntons chocolate is horrid so no great loss.
Is a shame though to have another empty shop and for the people who work there.

The shop is owned and run by the knight family who have just sold their other business F Knight & sons
