Action for Children in Conflict has four Oxfordshire shops that raise money to help support street children, and vulnerable children, in an area called Thika in Kenya. The charity has been operating since 2003.
The Abingdom shop has recently undergone a transformation as new management looks to attract more customers, and so help raise more funds to help those children in need of a good education.
Good luck to them with the new look. I just think charity shops are becoming more like regular shops, selling new products and a bit ’boutique’ like. I rather liked the old Action shop as it was, with a multitude of bits and pieces you browse through. I actually feel a bit reluctant to donate to these up market shops in case my unwanted items aren’t good enough.
Agree with you GRJ, not been in the revamped Action Aid, but for the reasons you said, it was far and away the best charity shop in town. Old school. Plenty of bric a brac to riffle through….just like it should be! Hope it keeps its charm.
The Help4Heros warehouse at the top of Caldecott Rd is also fantastic for the same reasons….but ad3 they don’t take cards, or even cheques….they are missing out on a few of my hard earned yet etheral pounds. Still…fab for a rummage though!
A great looking shop, nice refurb
