Good waterfront – no tourist sign

Fine Waterfront
John took these on Monday, arriving by Salters’ Steamer from Wallingford. He said “Who can doubt that we have one of the finest waterfronts in Britain.?”
Fine Water Front
Still he says “the A34 points passers-by to Millets Farm instead….”

It is about a year since John last mentioned the lack of a brown tourist sign from the A34. I know far cleverer people than me have tried and been told that historically it was easy to get brown tourists signs but nowadays there are so many criteria to fulfill – it is not easy to get a new one.

Maybe to get such things done you have to stop listening to reason.

I agree that abingdon could be better signposted from the A34 though I’m not sure we’d want loads of tourist buses!

A few would be nice…I assume coaches still park in the carpark over the bridge.

Won’t it be great when all the work is done, museum etc, to encourage people away from the Waterfront and into the Town.

Not sure where (may be somewhere on the action4abingdon website?) but I am sure this issue has been ‘raised’ before..and all manor of arguments were put in place for why it can’t be done…things like…it’s not up to the Town council/Vale….but OCC etc… Too many signs make it dangerous…etc…

There is/was so much ‘computer says no’ mentallity you’d be hard pressed to think that any of the ‘decision makers’ had Abingdon’s best interests at heart!

I am pretty sure that this is an issue the Choose Abingdon partnership have on their action list – if not it should be – a question which we can ask them at their AGM in October which I assume will be publicised shortly…

Why, pray tell, doesn’t some group (such as the Abingdon Town Council?) simply have appropriate signs made up, then place them in appropriate locations on private properties close to A34 ???
Trying to get action from OCC or the Vale is apparently equivalent to teaching pigs to fly. Come on folks, let’s see a bit of spunk for a change!!! If officialdom stands in the way, GO AROUND THEM!!
