The stretch of Wilsham Road between Margaret Brown Gardens and Saxton Road has 8 street lights out of order .
I was told that they had already been out of order for some weeks now, and there is the worry about school pupils going home these dark evenings. This has been communicated to the County Council and they will be mended from between 10 and 60 days.
Patisserie Pascal and I reported it to Oxford CC on
October 23rd. Maybe others had reported it earlier.
OCC responded that they had found a cable fault, which is the responsibility of SSE and that they would indeed take between 10 and 60 days to repair.
Now is that 60 days or 60 working days. If the latter then
with Christmas intervening the lights might just be working in time to change the clocks again.
The other night a group of joggers were running in the road as they felt it was safer than running on the rough footpaths.
This is what happens when maintenance and other services are contracted out. It is no longer a matter of local pride or interest, just another job to be done sometime sooner or (apparently) later.
Let’s hope nobody gets hurt (whether intentionally or accidentally); it will all be crocodile tears then. Street lighting is a matter of public safety and should be prioritised accordingly.
Audlett drive street lights, Farris mews/Jackman Close end have been out for weeks now. Fun only on halloween and every other christmas day.
Or light pollution, depending on your point of view 😉
Just arrived back in the Bing to find that 7 out of the 8 lights
are now functioning again . Excellent work,
Every morning, I leave my house in my car and encounter cyclists without lights wearing black. I think a little light pollution is in their interests…
