On Palm Sunday there was the first concert by the Abingdon Gospel Choir – founded just a few months ago. They were joined by some members of the Oxford Gospel Choir and sang spiritual songs in aid of helping a team from Nicaragua go to the Street Child World Cup in Brazil.
Then on Good Friday there was a procession from the Charter to a service inside St Nicolas Church.
A few years ago you might have seen lots of people standing with crosses on the Market Place in Abingdon on Good Friday, but times have changed and this year Revd. Richard Bittleston’s was to be seen without a flock, carrying a solitary cross.
We all have a cross to bear, but I’m sorry to hear that the Revd R.B. has been unflocked.
Off topic slightly….but….when I moved to Caldecott Rd in 2007 I am sure we could hear the bells of St Helens Church ring on Sundays. Now…we don’t.
Does anyone know whey they no longed ring? Or am I mistaken!?
When the bells were revamped I believe they were made quieter. When I used to dig with the AAAHS out at Thrupp in the early 80s you could clearly hear them across the fields.
Thanks Rachel….shame, for me….but I guess better for yous up there!
Didn’t they line the bell tower with sound deadening/breeze blocks??, following complaints of too loud from the new bells, all ringing together..
Rev RB, will be sadly leaving in August- September, so the flock will be without him. A new Methodist minister will be sharing Trinity and All Saints Methodist Church.
