Does anyone know why contractors seem to have scoured the turf off in Abbey Meadow? It looks as if there’s going to be a flower bed or something. If so, it seems an odd decision as it’s slap bang in the middle of where people play footie etc in the summer. Added to which, the turf has simply been left in an unsightly pile for some time now.

Abingdon can’t be doing too bad Craig if a pile of turf is worth mentioning as “unsightly”. I dare say whatever is going on hasn’t been finished therefore that most distressing pile of turf is being left until hey tidy up the whole job? Maybe a wild flower meadow if they are scarifying? As for the football, I’m sure they can find somewhere else to play out there as they would have to if anyone were to play golf on the greens.

Dear Native – am trying but failing to divine the tenor your post! Anyway, I just think that whatever it is seems in a rather odd place. And should the greens be played on, that would not impinge on playing footie in the space where this thing seems to being created. No that upset by it – just thought it worth mentioning. Hey ho
