A flood barrier with sandbags was erected next to St Helen’s Mill in Abingdon this afternoon. There has been a lot of rain over recent days. Light showers are expected on Christmas Day.
Last year over Christmas the Ock Valley walk was closed because of flooding. The water was swilling over the driveway at St Helen’s Mill.
Useless it is though… It should be right the way down our drive… I do love walking home through flood water!!
typical that it should happen two Christmas in a row – not much rain yesterday so wonder when the rising will stop – hopefully nobody will actually flood.
The Ock Valley walk is not accessible from Drayton Road, the path’s flooded. Attempted to walk that way this morning, but had to divert.
The floodplain is full between Tesco and the poets corner area. Floodwater lapping at the back fences of Orpwood Way. Can’t understand why the Thames is flowing so well and not overly flooded yet the Ock is so bad? Has the Ock clearing/maintenance scheme been regularly carried out? I think the EA/Council need to have another think bout Abingdon’s flood defences!
The Council need to appoint someone with a brain first
Perhaps the new housing development will solve this problem – did I really write that????
Happy Christmas!
