The Plane trees along St Helens Wharf were cut back last autumn, and started growing back slowly. This is a before-the-flood picture taken six weeks ago.
Six weeks on, and the sun has returned for the August bank holiday. Those leaves have got going.
What a shame that local LibDem councillors have defiled the good reputation of their party by putting personal and prejudicial interest before wider community interest. The Fox Halcrow report recommended that St Helens Wharf (shown in your pretty pictures) be closed to all but essential traffic. LibDem councillors opposed this, with the result that the Town centre traffic management scheme has proved a catastrophic failure. Why continue to bring more traffic into Town by the least suitable route if the obvious consequence is increased air and noise pollution and ever-worsening traffic congestion at the most polluted spot in central Abingdon, namely the junction of West St Helen Street and High Street Abingdon? Peyton Place has nothing on Abingdon!
Thanks for that. I think its OK. Both Ben and Hyde DP have google accounts, containing picture icons which are seen as a possible non secure item. If you say don't show, the picture is left as an X. But I'll check this out with Blogger who host the comment pages.
Thought you should know – in this and the following comments page, a never before seen unsecure item has started to appear. Hope it's nothing sinister!
Trees seem to be very good at springing back into action after pruning.
