The Crown and Thistle re-opened today after a major rebuild and refurbishment.
Before …
and After.
Before …
and After.
In a few short months the interior of the Crown and Thistle (hotel, restaurant, and bar) has been transformed, and externally it has been made safe against the elements.
The Old Barn was an old storage place. Now it makes a much bigger indoor bar area which can be closed off and used for private functions.
Popped in this evening to have a look around. Its truly a magnificent transformation and no corners cut. Unfortunate that it has not retained a ‘Sports Bar’ area as it was a great place to watch the Rugby and having spoken with Rob the bar manager, there is no intention to obtain Sky.
Looks stunning. Can’t wait to go and visit.
Looks good, If they have good real ale then I am all over it!!!
🙂
@Steveo There are 7 real ale hand pumps, 3 in the main bar, 2 in the barn and 2 in the cafe. Yesterday they included beer from Brakspear, Wychwood, Loose Cannon, Jennings and Ringwood.
My wife (the Mayor) went to the opening and she said they have done a fantastic job. (Sadly unwell kids meant I couldn’t go too!)
Looking forward to sampling the real ales 🙂
I can confirm the hobgoblin and loose cannon porter were both excellent – as was the fit out which is really nice. Great work Peter and team – a good addition/resurrection for abingdon
Ah, would that a couple of the nice Abingdon pubs could be exported to Luton.
No Sky Sports, maybe the Grapes should consider this gap in the market, apart from the Boundary House and College Oak I can’t think where else you can go?
The Midget of course Colin! All excellent establishments serving delicious Greene King ales. Ahem.
Is there actually anywhere left to watch Sports in the town centre anymore?!
Real, real shame that we’ve lost the old ‘Stock’s bar for that, really good atmosphere in there for big games, especially England ones. 🙁
Grapes now has Sky Sports,
Black Swan has sports channel of some kind.
Hi everyone,
Just to prove we listen to feedback we have now installed big screens in two bars (leaving two other bars free for those who don’t want to watch sport).
We will have the rugby on this weekend:
Sat 8th Feb 14.30 IRELAND V WALES
17.00 SCOTLAND V ENGLAND
Sun 9th Feb 16.00 FRANCE V ITALY
Regards,
Peter
