British Legion Abingdon – Weekly Meat Draw

Last Saturday we went to the Royal British Legion in Abingdon for a concert. The concert was interrupted at 10pm by the weekly meat draw – a raffle where bottles of wine, and joints of meat are the prizes. I think I heard that the meat came from Dews Meadow Farmshop in East Hanney, who were there today on the Market Place as part of the Farmers Market.

We won some  pork  – the best we had tasted in a long time, and went back for more today.

(The British Legion are happy to welcome new members. I think its just over £20 a year for membership. They have very reasonably priced drinks and a weekly meat draw. )

I expect many RBL members, especially the Atlantic Convoy vets, will immediately have thought of that old Vera Lynne classic :-

Can I just say what a relief to discover somebody who
actually understands what they are discussing online.
You certainly realize how to bring a problem to light and make it
important. More and more people need to read
this and understand this side of your story. I can’t believe you aren’t more popular since you most certainly possess the gift.
