Kingfisher Fledgling

Over the last seven weeks I’ve been doing a beginners Kayak course with the Kingfisher Canoe Club, and yesterday we all earned our one star BCU certificate. It was a bit like getting a swimming certificate at school.

Afterwards we, the new fledglings, had a celebration BBQ with the more experienced Kingfishers. Not insects or minnows!!!

The beginners course was great fun. I only wished I had a waterproof camera. We played water polo near the mill, did white watering at Sutton Pools, and navigated through the low hanging trees down swift ditch.

Harry Pottermania

Only 17 day to go until the final Harry Potter book comes out, and only 7 days until the next film is released. Harry Pottermania is with us again. The screen saver on our computer ticks down the minutes. The Book Store is going to give a special edition of the ‘Ghastly Hallows’ book for the best outfit at midnight, and Mostly Books have their own event starting around midnight on the 21st.

Two Angry Women of Abingdon

Repainted as part of the underpass mural…

“Two Angry Women of Abingdon” was written by Henry Porter. The play was well received and Porter could have gone on to become a great talent in the Elizabethan theatre. Unfortunately he did not continue to write the likes of…

Sblood, I do not like the humour of these springals; they’ll spend all their father’s good at gaming. But let them trowl the bowls upon the green. I’ll trowl the bowls in the buttery by the leave of God and Master Barnes: an his men be good fellows, so it is; if they be not, let them go snick up.

And if that has whetted your appetite you can
