Eggs and Chicks and Plastic

Eggs and Chicks and Plastic
Oxfam had Divine Easter Eggs without plastic. Green and Black Easter Eggs at Waitrose did not use plastic. Most of the other Easter Egg producers still use plastic.
Eggs and Chicks and Plastic
Eggs hatch and little chicks are to be seen in Abingdon this Easter – lots of them.

Our attempt to get through lent without plastic was not easy. The homemade toothpaste did not taste good and may have blocked up the sink. But we will be more aware of where we can get produce without excess packaging now. It must be made easier for all.

Why do producers need plastic as well as cardboard round Easter Eggs in any case?

Good Friday

Good Friday
There was a Farmer’s Market on Abingdon Market Place today.
Good Friday
The Church in Abingdon had their traditional Good Friday Procession from the library . The procession stopped on the Market Place to sing “There is a Green Hill Far Away.”
Good Friday
They then processed to St Nicolas Church where there was a United Service led by Reverend Paul Smith.
Good Friday
It was a lovely sunny day, and so not only St Nicolas Church , and the Market Place were busy. Nags Head Island was busy, as was the Abbey Meadow Play Park. It was also the busiest day of the year so far in terms of passing boats for Abingdon Lock. There is currently quite a narrow navigation channel, with red buoys, below the lock, and I saw a boat getting stuck on a shoal (accumulation of sediment) for a few minutes.

Bells Ring in Solidarity

At 7pm this Thursday evening the bells of St Helen’s Church and St Nicolas Church, in Abingdon-on-Thames town centre, rang in solidarity with the people of Paris because of the fire that destroyed the spire and roof of Notre Dame on Monday night.

Maundy Thursday

Thankyou to Jane for this …
Maundy Thursday
Our Lady & St. Edmund’s Church, and the Church in Abingdon, hosted an event on Abingdon’s Market Place, from 10 am to 1 pm to commemorate Maundy Thursday and the start of Eastertime.
Maundy Thursday
Jane says “It was a great morning for the shoe cleaning and we had lots of lovely people passing who came over to have their shoes cleaned, a refreshment and a chat!”
Maundy Thursday
Beautiful sunny weather added to the lovely morning.
