From Peter Pan to Burns Night: Things to Do in Abingdon This January


Abingdon Drama Club takes flight for their 80th anniversary with their unique production of Peter Pan. There are still tickets available at https://www.abingdon-drama-club.com/

There will be a musical journey for Epiphany and Candlemas with Crown Singers conducted by Paul Hedley. On Saturday, January 27th at 3pm, they present “Here is the Little Door,” a  concert featuring music (by Poulenc, Byrd and Howells), and readings at St Michael and All Angels’ Church, Park Road, Abingdon.

Calling all Scots (and honorary Scots at heart) for a Burns Night evening of traditional haggis, lively dancing, and community spirit in support of the Abingdon Passion Play 2024.

Bring your broken treasures back to life at the Oxford Wood Recycling Repair Cafe on Thursday, January 18th.

Trinity Church is hosting the Civic Service this year and welcomes the Mayor of Abingdon-on-Thames, dignitaries and visitors.

Deacon Selina, the mayor’s chaplain, is leading the service and is delighted to have the Fijian Fellowship Choir singing for this special Advent service.

A Reception will be in the Conduit Centre, next door, afterwards.

The Albert Park Singers Christmas Concert is on Friday 8th December – 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm – at St Michael and All Angels’ Church. The Albert Park Singers are a local community choir. There will be seasonal favourites from Carols to pieces by Handel and Elgar. Free Admission. Donations on the night to Crisis at Christmas. The concert will be followed by refreshments.

On Saturday 9th December there will be a Local Excellence Christmas Craft Market on Abingdon Market Place.

The Abingdon Extravaganza is back on 2nd December. There will be no fireworks this year as there was a significant protest after last year’s fireworks. A fuller explanation is given at : https://www.abingdonextravaganza.org/statement-about-extravaganza-23

Also on the same day is the Christmas Market at St Helen’s Church. St Helen’s is a protestant church.

Upcoming events


The annual Abingdon Baptist Church Christmas Fayre features a variety of stalls selling handmade crafts, food, and gifts. There will also be free drinks at 35 Ock Street.

At St Nicolas Church, on Friday 17 & Saturday 18 November, there is exhibition showcasing the work of local artists and craftspeople. There will be a variety of items for sale, including paintings, pottery, jewellery, and glassware.

Then the following Friday 24th, at the Abbey Buildings, there will be exhibitions and discussions around the subject of Climate Justice.
