Exbourne Road, in Abingdon, have celebrated annual Street Parties for the last nine years and this year they also have Advent Windows. One is unveiled each evening.

Being ground-floor terrace-house windows they can be viewed close up.

On South Avenue there are a lot of houses and there is some duplication of numbers. On Exbourne Road there are fewer houses and some feature two days.

Displays can be seen during the day

and during the night.

The Abingdon Operatic Society were singing carols outside the Abingdon Community Freespace Shop this morning.

Father Christmas was inside the shop. The Abingdon Lions have taken him all round the estates of Abingdon.

On the Market Place the Salvation Army were playing and singing carols.

It was a gorgeous morning. The sun was shining, after yesterday’s rain, and the Rivers were quite high.

The South Avenue Advent Windows are back. More houses than ever have taken part this year. Some numbers are doubled up. If you go to look round you can drop in a donation for the Helen and Douglas House Hospice through some letter boxes. Or view The Helen and Douglas House Christmas Appeal.

In the Community Free Space Shop, this afternoon, different community groups were decorating 20 real Christmas Trees.

The Christmas Tree Festival will run from 12th – 21st December, 10-4. You can vote for your favourite tree for £1.00.

There will also be craft sessions, and wreath making sessions. This particular tree had decorations made and painted by people with learning disabilities supported by hft.

Tracey from Carers Oxfordshire helped co-ordinate the event. She also organises Abingdon Community Events’ Toydrive and has been collecting gifts over the last few weeks. Their big wrap will be on 14th December at Dalton Barrack Community Centre. See facebook @abingdonevents.
