Members of the Abingdon Drama Club set off on their annual walk along the Thames Path from Abingdon to Oxford this morning.

The nine mile walk had breaks at Radley, Sandford Lock, and the Isis pub.

It was a chance to reminisce about some of the great productions.

Abingdon Drama Club was formed 75 years ago and their first production was London Wall at the Corn Exchange. Thankyou to the drama club for the pictures.

Tickets were 1/- each.

When the Unicorn Theatre was created in 1953, Abingdon Drama Club was asked to stage the first production and chose The Two Angry Women of Abingdon by Henry Porter.

Their most recent production in 2019 was ‘Allo ‘Allo!  which was, by all accounts, “Tres Bien!!!”

And the next production is Amadeus by Peter Shaffer.

The drama club performed Equus in 2013 also by Peter Shaffer. A review said “…absolutely outstanding and probably the best performance of any play by an amateur group that we have ever seen. The quality of acting by all the cast was exceptional and certainly every bit as good as one would expect from a professional company.”

For reasons well known in the local community, the last 2 years have been extremely difficult for the club. Their “home” has been restricted to the two temporary box trailers at the lock.

Dave says thanks to all the general public who have supported them through these difficult times. There Is light at the end of the tunnel.

The Ramblers left Abingdon Market Place yesterday morning for Radley. They did not take the bus or car but followed public footpaths through fields high with grass

and wild flowers. Rambling at this time of year is not easy for hay fever sufferers.

The ramblers enjoyed views of Radley Lakes and the River Thames along the way and must have arrived safely and returned without mishap in Abingdon because one of their members sent me these pictures.

I saw them drinking coffee at one of the many coffee places on Abingdon Market Place before their departure.

The Kingfisher Canoe Club and guests were at Abingdon Weir on Saturday evening enjoying the white water.

Somebody was scoring the event with points for difficult manoeuvres. Canoeists attempted to hit the blue target dangling from a rope with the paddle. Some tried to do it twirling the paddle like a helicopter, and others with a front or back swipe.

There could have been extra points for throw and catch and hit.

Whatever the rules, the River Thames gave them some good water.
