MG Cars gathered on the Market Place this morning from about 9:30.

There was also a Bull Nose Morris.

They met for the 20th annual Boxing Day Run organised by the Abingdon MG Works Centre.

They then set off round the one way system and across Abingdon Bridge into South Oxfordshire.

The River Thames is running fairly high so some walks are only passable with wellington boots and care.

The Ock Valley Walk is now flooded near the town centre. Comments yesterday from the Ladygrove Estate said “Floodwater from the Ock lapping at the back fences of Orpwood Way.”

Abingdon Works Car Show – 2013
The Abingdon Works Car Show was on today in Rye Farm Meadow

The show celebrated the days when a lot of wonderful cars were made in Abingdon-on-Thames. The event was run in conjunction with the MG Car Club and Abingdon Rotary Club. But it was not all about MGs. Rileys are being admired in this picture.

The Abingdon works fire engine was there, as well as a modern day fire engine from Abingdon-on-Thames Fire Station.

This MG has a numberplate that almost says Abingdon Works.

Today was the day that Andy Murray won Wimbledon for the first time. The previous time a male player from these isles won the competition cars like these were on the road. The one in the foreground has done nearly 450,000 miles, although the clock does not show quite that much,as it starts again every 100,000 miles.

Such a hot day – a lot of the cars had their bonnets up, and on the other side of the River the open air pool and water feature were packed. The Rotary and all the MG Car Clubs made us proud of our Abingdon heritage.
MGB 50th anniversary celebration – 10 MGBs on display in Abingdon

MGB enthusiasts and retired workers from the MGB production line in Abingdon will be meeting at Blenheim Palace for the 50th anniversary of the MGB tomorrow.

It was first launched in September 1962 and ceased production in October 1980.

This afternoon ten MGBs assembled on the Market Place in Abingdon, and others were to be seen driving, or parked, in town today.

The last MGB to be produced, painted bronze, is on fairly permanent display at Abingdon Conty Hall Museum.
A double treat for MG fans

MG fans were able to enjoy not just one but two MG Rallys on the Market Place today – and what a glorious day it was. In the morning there were about 50+ MGs who spent the weekend in Abingdon, supporting local hotels and businesses, and visiting Kimber House and other local sites, before driving off to Bletchley Park.

First time I’d seen one of the new MG6s

or any of these Rover Built MG Super Cars.

The second Rally a few hours later brought a dozen or so Y series MGs built in Abingdon from 1947.

They were here to celebrate their 65th anniversary.
2012 will also be the 50th Anniversary of the MGB, and the MG Car Club want to gets lots of ex MG workers together for the MGB50 event.
