Advent Day 10 – Snowy Sunday

Snowy Sunday
It was snowing at 7am. The weather forecast had predicted snow but I never expect snow to really happen.
Snowy Sunday
Here is Belsky’s mother and child in the snow. Elsewhere there were lots of real parents out with their children, playing snowballs and with sledges.
Snowy Sunday
The paths and roads got very slippery as the snow continued to fall. Cars and even buses could not always get traction. Walking sticks and ski sticks looked very sensible.
Snowy Sunday
The world had turned black and white with just a few touches of colour.
Snowy Sunday
At Trinity, there were less people than usual. Geoff Caudle from Drayton led the service. He did well to get there.
Snowy Sunday
After church I began to see snowmen. There were two next to Abingdon Baptist Church.
Snowy Sunday
Down in the Abbey Meadows somebody had sculpted a mermaid from the snow.
Snowy Sunday
On another bench sat a snowman.

The snow stopped for the first time at 2 pm.

Runaway Fair

Runaway Fair
The Abingdon ‘Runaway Fair’ was held today in the Market Place and along the High Street.
Runaway Fair
Remnants of last week’s Michaelmas Fair returned for one day: children’s rides, fun houses, and stalls. The pictures are after the fair was set up – on a warm clear sunny Sunday.
Runaway Fair
Monday was a strange day, warm, with a yellow tinge to the clouds, and the wind growing. The news reported that sand has been blown from the Sahara by storm Ophelia.

Storm Doris Zs through Abingdon

Storm Doris
The walk near the almshouses was cordoned off because of a dangerous branch on one the large conifers near the church.
Storm Doris
The wind was strong enough to blow over wheelie bins and traffic cones in Abingdon today, and to send clouds speeding across the sky.
Storm Doris
One tree possibly blown over by Storm Doris was in the Albert Park. It appeared that the protective cage had blown over pulling down the small tree with it.
Storm Doris
Early daffodils were blowing in the wind near the Bowls Club, and twigs had fallen on a lot of the walks on this very windy day.
Storm Doris
On the Ock Valley Walk a number of large willow trees were down – not blown down by the wind. They were cut back as part of the management of the area before the storm.
