Demolition at the Abbey Shopping Centre

A lot more signs have appeared over the last week to make it clear that businesses are still open along the Abbey Shopping Centre.

From Wednesday to Friday last week five units (between Boots and what was The Lemon Plaice) were reduced to rubble by demolition excavators. This is what it now looks like from the County Hall roof.

And this is the view from the fitness centre in Queen Street where people can watch the demolition machines in operation as they train on treadmills.
Second tunnel goes in at Abbey Shopping Centre

The scaffolding men were back early this evening putting scaffold over the near side of the Abbey Shopping Centre. So it looks like there will be a tunnel both sides.

Round the back the buildings have always given me the impression of something at the seaside. That will soon change and I guess this view from the top of the Charter Carpark will look quite different with taller buildings with gables in the foreground.

Three stop lift

Work continues round the museum. This is how the lift shaft looked two weeks ago.
