As you may know there are two cemeteries, both near Spring Road. There is the old cemetery with the two chapels.

During 2009 it had the walls recapped and pointed as they were in need of some TLC.

And there is the new cemetery round which the gates and railings have had some TLC in 2009. The railings look quite sharp now with the gold tops.

Also new bins are being installed to allow separation of compostable from other waste.

And within the new cemetery a new garden of remembrance for cremations is in the process of being created. The old one is almost full.

The cemetery itself has – maybe – another 12-15 years, depending on various factors, before it starts getting full.

Number 7 on the Abingdon Heritage Advent Calendar is Mr Ely’s Fountain.

It says “A brick fountain-head created by Mr Richard Ely and placed into a building in Ock Street in 1719 to help provide a better water supply. The building was in a bad state after WW II and the Friends of Abingdon arranged for the fountain to be moved to its present location in the wall of Tomkins Almshouse off Conduit Road.”

A short circular Video of the Abingdon Concert Band on the Market Place yesterday morning during the local craft fair.

The Mayor, Councillor Patricia Hobby, drawing the raffle prizes. There were 12 prizes in all, each donated by one of the craft stalls, for the Mayors Charities. You will hear by telephone if you have won.

Extravagana Evening… The Natural Health Centre off St Edmunds Lane had put up their stall in front of Lansbrough Estates.

Another near neighbour of mine, just up West St Helen Street, are The Honey Pot…

My daughter, at Thorntons, got me one of those chocolate Advent Calendars and I am already up to day 17 after a binge lastnight, so Christmas will come early this year.

This craft fair was organised by Abingdon Town Council.

Peter Green opened the event with his Town Criers bell. Children were saying he looks a bit like Father Christmas – except in green.

The real Father Christmas was there with The Abingdon Lions. He will be out and about round Abingdon between 6 PM and 8 PM on the following busy schedule…

Not sure why he does not do the town centre. That is one thing I miss living here – the approach of the sleigh bells.

Many stalls had Christmas goodies.

On the Added Ingredients Stall there was somebody cooking up and letting people sample hot sauces.
