The Mayor, Patricia Hobby, was there this morning to cut the ribbon and toast Dream Doors, the new kitchen refurbishment business run by Mike & Elaine (centre). All the best to them.

The Mayor was also there with her team, most of Abingdon Town Council, to play Phab at carpet bowls and a quiz this evening.

Nigel Carter, him in the sky blue, runs the Phab club, who meet every Thursday at Christ Church Centre. Phab‘s aim is to create opportunities for children and adults of all abilities to enjoy life together. Nigel makes that ‘mission statement’ fun.

In terms of carpet bowls the create opportunities bit means that those who have not got as much muscular control as the rest of us can use a bit of guttering to aim the ball.

At the end of the evening the Mayor presented Nigel with the annual Abingdon Town Council v Phab Trophy.

Daffodils are late appearing this year. These clusters are on the bank of the River Ock alongside the Ock Mini Park.

The Ock Mini Park is that recently cleared empty looking patch of ground near the Drayton Road double roundabout.

Planting has now begun, and there are ideas afoot to make this into the MG memorial park with a trail of stones bearing the names and possibly outlines of MG Models.

I’d also like to see a large immovable model of an MG car to complete the transition from Ock Mini Park to Ock MG Park.

A couple of years ago there was a flower seller and a snack bar on the precinct. Times got hard and both closed up their shutters for the final time.

A couple of months ago a snack bar opened up where the flower seller once was, and a few days ago a flower seller opened up where the snack bar once was – in the recently renamed Abbey Shopping Centre.

They have swapped sides.
