Thanks to John for pictures of Palm Sunday at St Michael’s. It is traditional to parade on Palm Sunday. At Trinity, nearby, we were not so daring, and the children and some adults paraded round inside the church while a hymn was sung, but St Michael’s Church paraded from the Albert Park back to their church building.
The colour used throughout Lent is purple, and during the week before Easter the crucifix is covered at some churches.

Music From The Movies

This was one of the last shows in the Abingdon Arts Festival. Wesley Smith was introducing songs from the Movies played by the joint Abingdon Concert Band and Bicester Concert Band. Both bands have the same conductor so such a collaboration does not seem too unusual.
With fifteen minutes to go the place was already packed. It was a sell out and this is about the nearest seat I could find. You can just about make out Wesley seated to the left of the stage.
High Street Resurfacing

For three nights the High Street has been closed for resurfacing. On night 1 they dug up the old tarmac. On night 2 they laid most of the new tarmac.
On night 3 they tarmaced the the Bus Layby and other fiddly areas.
All looking very nice first thing this morning.
It is just a shame that the pavements will need to be pulled up and relaid. People have been told by County Councillors that some of the slabs were the wrong size and as a result it has gone awry.
A bit of The Mayor of Abingdon’s Day

The Mayor, Patricia Hobby, was there this morning to cut the ribbon and toast Dream Doors, the new kitchen refurbishment business run by Mike & Elaine (centre). All the best to them.
The Mayor was also there with her team, most of Abingdon Town Council, to play Phab at carpet bowls and a quiz this evening.
Nigel Carter, him in the sky blue, runs the Phab club, who meet every Thursday at Christ Church Centre. Phab‘s aim is to create opportunities for children and adults of all abilities to enjoy life together. Nigel makes that ‘mission statement’ fun.
In terms of carpet bowls the create opportunities bit means that those who have not got as much muscular control as the rest of us can use a bit of guttering to aim the ball.
At the end of the evening the Mayor presented Nigel with the annual Abingdon Town Council v Phab Trophy.
